How to View Email Headers in Popular Email Clients

Email headers contain technical information showing how an email was sent and routed. They are commonly required when troubleshooting spam, phishing, or email delivery issues.

Gmail (Web – Desktop)

  1. Open the email.
  2. Click the three vertical dots (?) next to the Reply button.
  3. Select Show original.

The Gmail mobile app does not show full headers.

  • Open Gmail in a mobile browser (Chrome or Safari)
  • Enable Desktop site
  • Follow the Gmail Web steps above

  1. Double-click the email to open it in a new window.
  2. Click File ? Properties.
  3. Copy the content under Internet headers.
